Longhorn sheep pix near Taos, NM

Actually, I think it is called a "big" horn sheep. Does anyone know the difference between "bighorn sheep" and "longhorn sheep"???? Regardless, twas a lovely sight.

You would be correct in referring to this animal as a Bighorn sheep. As a wildlife biologist I consider “longhorn sheep” a misnomer. There are several different sub-species in the United States, California; Rocky Mountain; Peninsular; Desert…This one is probably either Desert or California. I’m not 100% sure which sub-species roams the Taos area. This is a young Class II ram, probably 3-5 years old.
